The puppy-mill industry is the most secretive and cruel billion-dollar industry in the United States.
It started after World War II when the United States Department of Agriculture was trying to help Midwest farmers; the department suggested breeding puppies and to do so, farmers retrofitted their rabbit and chicken coops to house dogs and breed them ….
Fast forward to today, and there are hundreds of thousands of breeding dogs squished in cages, being bred over and over again. It is horrific. The resulting puppies are used for many purposes, among them animal testing.
Marshall Resources located in North Rose, New York [Wayne County] is among the largest puppy mills with approximately 18,000 breeding dogs. Most of the puppies are used for animal testing, and we aim to help stop this.
As a beginning, we support the March to Abolish Animal Testing, which started on Sept. 11 in Albany and will end on Sept. 26 at the gates of Marshall Resources in North Rose, New York.
We march for the countless animals, many of them dogs, who are bred, confined, and used in laboratories for research and testing. These animals have no choice in their circumstances, and we believe they deserve a voice.
On top of that, this march aims to shed light on the suffering. It is about building a better future for science. Advances in human-relevant, non-animal research methods are giving us the opportunity to pursue scientific progress without relying on animals as test subjects.
We believe compassion and innovation can, and should, go hand in hand. Science should move forward without suffering.
Over 207 miles, every step of this march will represent our call for change: science without suffering, progress without cruelty, and a future where animals are no longer sacrificed in the name of research.
We invite our community to stand with us, raise awareness, and join the growing movement to end animal testing.
