In the early hours of September 29, a group of beagles were reportedly removed from MBR Acres, Marshall BioResources’ breeding facility in Cambridgeshire, UK.

According to reports from the animal-rights community, at least three beagles were rescued from the facility, with the possibility that additional dogs were also removed. The situation is still developing, and further details about the dogs and their current circumstances have not yet been confirmed.

The rescue comes just days after hundreds of people marched to the gates of MBR Acres in Huntingdon on September 26 in solidarity with the international March to Abolish Animal Testing. At the same time, marchers in the United States completed a 207-mile journey from Albany, New York, to the gates of Marshall BioResources in North Rose, New York, the company that operates MBR Acres.

MBR Acres breeds beagles for use in laboratory research. Campaigners with Save the Dogs UK report that approximately 2,000 beagle puppies are bred at the facility each year.

For the dogs who were able to leave, this moment represents something profoundly simple: a chance to experience life outside a laboratory breeding facility.

Their rescue also comes at a time when conversations around rehoming are growing. Marshall BioResources has recently worked with U.S. rescue organizations to rehome beagles from its New York facility, demonstrating that there are alternatives to sending these dogs into laboratories.

As more information becomes available about the dogs rescued from MBR Acres, we will continue to follow their stories and share verified updates.

Every dog deserves the chance to know a life beyond a laboratory.
